Is your moisturiser right for your skin-type?

Moisturisers play a vital role in keeping our skin hydrated and maintaining its moisture levels. The right moisturiser not only soothes and protects our skin, but also boosts its natural ability to renew and defend itself.

However, using the wrong moisturiser can mess up our skin's proper functioning. Since we rely on moisturisers every day, choosing the right one is absolutely crucial in keeping our skin happy, healthy, and glowing. Do you really know how your moisturiser works and if it's truly the right fit for you?

Moisturisers contain ingredients that fall into three key groups:

Humectant ingredients work by attracting water to the skin and keeping it there. Many mainstream moisturisers use propylene glycol, which is a byproduct of petroleum. But here at Four Cow Farm, we prefer natural vegetable glycerin. It's important to find the right balance because too much can make a moisturiser feel sticky and uncomfortable, and even interfere with the skin's ability to moisturise itself, which is a really important part of its healing and renewal process.

Occlusive ingredients increase moisture levels by creating a protective barrier on the skin, preventing water loss. The most commonly used occlusive ingredients are synthetic, like petrolatum and silicones. But fear not! Our range includes richer natural vegetable oils such as castor and macadamia oils, as well as beeswax, and we use them in just the right amounts. Too many occlusive ingredients can interfere with the skin's ability to "breathe" and interact with its environment.

Emollient ingredients are the real superheroes of moisturisers. They not only improve the skin's appearance by smoothing out flaky skin cells, but also moisturise the top layer of the skin. The most commonly used emollient ingredient in moisturisers is mineral oil, which happens to be another byproduct of crude oil. However, we've got you covered with light natural oils like olive, almond, camellia, and rosehip.

Selecting the perfect blend of moisturising ingredients can actually speed up your skin's repair and renewal process. That's why we take the selection of natural oils and their combinations very seriously!

Every single moisturiser in our range is designed to target specific skin conditions. We've got our richest products that are perfect for pampering and nourishing extremely dry skin (like our Calendula Concentrate, Remedies, Gotu Kola & Calendula Rich Cream Salve, and Mother's Intensive Restorative Oil). If you're looking to plump up skin that lacks nourishment, we've got options for you too (such as our Mother's Rich Cream Salve and Calendula & Camellia Lotion). And of course, we have gentle products that aim to protect and soothe your skin to the max (like our Baby Lotion).

If you're not sure which one is your skin's soulmate, don't hesitate to get in touch with us via chat at Four Cow Farm or drop us an email at advice@fourcowfarm.com. We'll be more than happy to chat with you and help you find the perfect moisturiser for your lovely skin!
